Why Designers Should Think Like Strategists

Hello, everyone. It’s been a while, so allow me to reintroduce myself.

My name is Charmaine Sylvers, and I was a member of the family group The Sylvers. If you aren’t familiar with us, we recorded songs including “Boogie Fever” and “High School Dance,” among others. We had the opportunity to travel, perform and experience some extraordinary moments together—and music has shaped nearly every part of my life.

Now, after some time away, I’m returning to the music industry with a new purpose—and I’m excited to finally share what I’ve been building.

Music has shaped nearly every part of my life. As a member of The Sylvers, I had the opportunity to record hit songs, perform for audiences around the world and experience moments I will always be grateful for. It was an incredible adventure—but it was also a journey filled with as many difficult moments as beautiful ones.

Behind the success, there were times when we were overworked, when the music we were asked to make may have been commercially successful but didn’t always feel true to who we were. There were financial decisions we didn’t fully understand, money that wasn’t managed as it should have been and pressures that created stress, distance and wounds that took years for our family to heal.

I don’t share that to take away from everything we accomplished. I share it because I still hear stories from young artists facing many of those same challenges today.

The music industry can be extraordinary. Those of us who have been able to make music for a living are incredibly fortunate. But somewhere along the way, building a career can become so overwhelming that artists lose the joy that brought them to music in the first place.

This was supposed to be fun.

So when I decided to return to the industry, I knew I wanted to do more than start another record label. I wanted to help build something that could make the journey clearer, healthier and less isolating for the next generation.

Independent should never have to mean alone.

That belief led us to create Luminara Entertainment—an artist-first platform designed to help independent artists and music professionals manage the business surrounding their music, connect with one another and find the tools, knowledge and resources they need to grow.

At the center of the platform is Luna, an AI career partner who gets to know the artist, their goals and the way they work—then helps turn those goals into clear, manageable next steps.

Luna helps artists manage and grow their individual careers. Luminara Community connects those careers to the larger music ecosystem.

For me, this is more than launching a company. It is a new chapter, a way of giving back to the industry that gave so much to me and an opportunity to help other artists build their careers without carrying everything alone.

We’ve been working quietly, listening carefully and building something I truly believe can be a game changer—not only for independent artists, but for the music industry as a whole.

I could not be more proud of what we’re creating.

More information is coming very soon. This is only the beginning, and I would love for you to follow along.

Luminara Entertainment is coming.

Built by artists. Built for artists.
